The Extra Mile

Recognizing contributions and accomplishments HDC affiliated dentists are making in their communities and beyond.

In April 2013, Dr. Robert Mongrain of Berkshire Dental Group in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, was awarded the Benjamin Franklin Scroll Award by the Oklahoma Dental Association for his significant contribution to the Journal of the Oklahoma Dental Association.

Dr. Seth Gibree and his team at North Georgia Smiles in Cumming, Georgia, organized an amazingly successful blood drive in honor of his father, who unfortunately a month earlier, had an accident which caused him to have both his left hand and left leg amputated. With the help of friends, local churches, patients and the community, the drive received more than 80 donations.

At Dental Group of Springfield in Springfield, Illinois, Dr. William Bloink was recently voted the best dentist in the Springfield area. This was published in the local paper, the State Journal Register. Dr. Beau Moody continually provides volunteer care for special needs patients on a regular basis. The team donated $260 to St. Jude’s Hospital after collecting throughout the year. In addition, the team wears jeans one day per month and donates money each time they participate. They also held a cell phone drive for patients to win free whitening and participated in a toy drive for Toys for Tots last Christmas.

Dr. Tracey Smith and Dr. Eric Smith of Whittaker Road Dental in Ypsilanti Township, Michigan, have both been included in the Top Dentists in the Detroit Area Awards held by Hour Magazine. Dr. Tracey has been recognized the past two years, and Dr. Eric was recognized this past year.

In Pennsylvania, Dr. Brice Arndt of Camp Hill Dentist and Dr. Charles Foer of Mechanicsburg Family Dental were both selected as not only “Top Dentists” in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area, but were also selected for the same honor for the South Central Pennsylvania area. As an office, the Camp Hill Dental Team raised $1800 for the local library through sponsorships at their Free Dentistry Day in June.

This past May, Dr. Josh Dubose of Spring Street Family Dentistry in Monroe, Georgia, traveled to Cusco, Peru with Medical Campus Outreach out of Augusta, Georgia. Twelve dentists and over 30 dental students from Georgia Regents University treated Peruvians in a clinic established by several families from the United States, performing root canals, periodontal treatment, extractions, and restorations over four clinic days.

In his community, Dr. Jay Hudson of Devine Dental Care in Devine, Texas, is involved with the San Antonio Rodeo Youth Scholarship, Mustang open for Cancer Research, Pet Adoption, American Heart Association Blood Drive, the Wounded Warrior program as a sponsor, Youth Leadership of America (Washington D.C. leadership camp), Transplant Games as a sponsor, an office food drive, an office coat drive, Iron Trail ride for Make-a Wish, Devine Youth Little League, Devine Youth Football League, San Antonio Semi Pro Baseball Association, National Adult Baseball Association and Men’s Senior League Baseball Association.

Each year, Dr. Leo Wheat and the team at Wheat Family Dental complete a mission trip to Cap-Haitien, Haiti to provide dental treatment to the local orphanages and villages. This year, the team left on August 27th and returned on September 4th. To raise donations for this trip, the team held a Pay it Forward Dental Day on August 17th, in which cleaning and extractions were provided for a minimum $10 donation. During the event, $2,500 was raised for the Haiti mission trip.

This past April, Dr. Oluleke Jeboda of Westside Dental Care in Springfield, Illinois, traveled to the Dominican Republic for a mission trip, providing dental care at a clinic in Los Guandeles. Over three days, he and other doctors involved helped around 60 patients receive extractions, cleanings and fluoride treatment.

Dr. Thomas Marshall at Virginia Parkway Dental Care in McKinney, Texas, was recognized as a “Mom-Approved Doctor”, in DFW Child Magazine. Nominated by mothers and consumers, a DFW “Mom-Approved Doctor” is a clinician who has earned the trust, admiration and respect of parents in the area.

Recently, Dr. Natalie Goodman and her team at The Lewisville Dentist in Lewisville, Texas, provided free cleanings, dental health screenings and follow-up recommendations at a charity event benefiting 14 high school students from the local Ben Harmon campus, most of whom had never received a dental checkup in their life.

Dr. Kathleen Foster of Diamond Valley Dental Care in Evansville, Indiana, was recently voted Best of the Best in the Tri-State Area - a poll held by the Evansville Courier & Press where readers could vote.
