Education is Key
A Message From Our President
No matter what field you are in, career evolution happens. Whether it is technology advancing or systems progressing, we must all adapt to change in order to perform at our best. This reality is especially present in the dental industry. That adaptation starts with education.
Patrick C. Bauer
President and Chief Operations Officer at Heartland Dental Care
Since Heartland Dental was established in 1997, supporting world-class continuing education has been a staple of our organization. Each year, we offer a wide variety of educational opportunities designed to help affiliated dentists of all experience levels advance themselves personally and professionally.
Almost every piece in this issue has the theme of education running through it-from one dentist's passion for education to another's commitment to mentor new graduates. In our cover story, the story of mentorship and education comes full circle.
So far, 2014 has seen some exciting developments and additions to our continuing education offerings. In late July, the Dr. LEADS program, a five-day course for recently graduated dentists who have affiliated with Heartland Dental, took place. Over one hundred attendees had the opportunity to become acquainted with our culture and support systems. In addition, the revamped Dr. Leadership course was rolled out. This year, instead of the traditionally large annual courses, the Dr. Leadership series will be comprised of a number of regional workshops led by Heartland Dental's own mentor dentists. These workshops will create interactive educational experiences with hands-on participation, as well as learning from peers in structured, supportive environments.
In early 2014, some of Heartland Dental's finest presented a communication course to the faculty of the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. The group saw an excellent turnout and imparted many insights on ideal communication. I would like to thank Heartland Dental board member and Dean of the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, Dr. Pat Ferrillo, and their entire staff for providing this amazing opportunity.
